Stephen Petras DMD, FAGD is director of the Stockton Dental Center where he has been practicing dentistry since 1987. He acquired his Bachelor of Science degree at Loyola University and earned his dental degree from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1986. Since that time he has acquired nearly 1000 hours of continuing education courses encompassing all areas of dentistry. Dr. Petras writes a weekly dental column in a local newspaper, the Illinois Farmer, and his articles also frequently appear in The Scoop Today. CHICAGO (July 7, 2000) – Stephen Petras, DMD is one of a select group of dentists nationwide to receive the Academy of General Dentistry's (AGD) prestigious Fellowship award during the Academy's annual meeting held July 22, in Toronto.

As a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy's members have recognized Dr. Petras as a leader who is committed to life long learning and excellence in patient care. The Fellowship award symbolizes the professional responsibility of general dentists to remain current in their profession. To achieve this award, Dr. Petras completed a comprehensive written exam and a minimum of 500 hours of quality continuing dental education. To date, 11,595 members have earned Fellowship.

The AGD is a non-prophet international organization of 36,000 general dentists from the United States, its territories and Canada. Committed to providing quality care and patient education to the public, AGD members are required to take 75 hours of continuing dental education every three years.

Dr. Petras graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Dentistry in 1986. Since then, he has been in private practice in Stockton, Ill. In addition to the AGD, Dr. Petras is also a member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois Dental Society, the Grant Dental society and the International Association of Orthodontics.
